Abstract

Combined surgical procedures are usually required for complete resection of tumor growing into the vital anatomical structures despite deceptively ‘simple’ treatment of basal cell skin cancer. Good facilities of multi-field hospital and high skills in plastic surgery are necessary for effective closure of these defects. The authors report two patients with advanced scalp defects after resection of locally advanced basal cell carcinoma. Resection of all tissues up to the dura mater required simultaneous reconstruction of defects with free pedicled omental autograft covered by split skin transplants. We observed good esthetic and functional results, 2- and 1.5-year recurrence-free periods.
