Abstract

Abstract Objective — to develop a new method of surgical correction of nasal base width without additional incisions and resection of skin-adipose bodies of the nostrils. The peculiarity of our method is complete intranasal manipulations without external incisions. Therefore, impaired configuration of nostrils and gross aesthetic defect are prevented. Material and methods. Conventional vestibular incision is made using scalpel or electrosurgical knife in nasal vestibule. This incision was extended down up to the base of the nostril, turned to horizontal incision of the mucosa inside the nasal cavity for 5 to 7 mm depending on individual excess of vestibular skin. The obtained flap consisting of vestibular skin and mucous membrane of the nasal vestibule as well as its resection are useful for rotation in different directions using various tension vector. This method resulted reinforcement of the walls of the nostrils and redistribution of vestibular skin with excess soft tissue. Results. Positive aesthetic result (reduced nasal base width) was noted by 135 (90%) patients, 15 (10%) of patients noted mild positive result or did not notice any changes after surgery. All patients noted improved nasal breathing after surgery. Conclusion. Our method results visual narrowing of the width of the nostrils, preserves their physiological shape and nasal breathing without additional external skin incisions.
