Abstract

The purpose of our report is to describe a rare clinical case of facial nerve schwannoma, review the literature devoted to etiology, diagnosis and management of patients with this disease. Schwannoma of the peripheral segment of the facial nerve is an extremely rare tumor difficult for diagnosis. Surgical treatment may be followed by unpredictable intraoperative situation with injury of the facial nerve and irreversible aesthetic and functional consequences for the patient. Uniqueness of the case report is in intraparotid slow asymptomatic growth of schwannoma with clinical and instrumental imitating a pleomorphic parotid adenoma.
